Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at sewers who are familiar with their sewing machines but who want to gain experience and confidence of putting in a zip.
Please note our workshops are created for adults. Our tutor is happy to accommodate teenagers, but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult booking the class too.
What does the course include?
In the morning you will learn about different types of zips. You will learn to insert an enclosed zip for a bench cushion, a concealed zip for a garment, a fly zip for jeans, and an open zip for a bag. In the afternoon you will make a machine quilted make-up bag with a zip close. You will have the opportunity to use a concealed and a slim zip foot. Please ensure you have a standard zip foot for your machine. Zips and fabrics will be provided.
What should I bring?
- A sewing machine in good working order, no toy machines. If your machine is over 10 years old we would recommend having it serviced, which we can do prior to the course (please allow 10-14 days for this). Please note, our technicians are unable to do repairs on sewing machines during a course.
- A standard zip foot for your machine. Most machines will come with this but if you need to purchase one, please speak to one of our technicians as you will need the correct one for your make of machine.
- A basic sewing kit including scissors & pins.
- Please bring some lunch, you are welcome to eat in our training room.
Who is the Tutor?
Helen Perry has been crafting since she was young. She is a prolific sewer and makes her own clothes. She runs a soft furnishing and upholstery business.
Training Room & Accessibility: Our training room is located on the first floor of the World of Sewing shop; it is accessed via three small flights of stairs.
